Capitalise on Oil Market’s Volatility

Brent Oil and WTI — short for West Texas Intermediate (also known as “Texas light sweet”) — are grades of oil produced primarily in the North Sea and US. While both are widely traded, and are the global benchmarks for the energy’s price, Brent actually determines the price of 2/3 of the world’s oil.

WTI’s supply and demand often vary considerably to Brent’s. This anomaly can bring unique opportunities to traders, on top of those based on WTI’s fundamental supply and demand or the technical factors of how the WTI price chart is developing. The Brent price we offer, on the other hand, stems from Brent’s future price for the nearest expiration month traded on London’s Intercontinental Exchange.

You think the price of WTI Oil will appreciate based on global demand. You buy 1 lot of WTI at USD53.11. One lot is the equivalent of USD100 for every USD1 increment in the price movement of WTI Oil. The market is later trading at USD54.11, and you decide to sell. Your profit is USD100 (USD54.11 closing price - USD53.11 opening price x 100 increments).
