Is my application data still saved?
Yes, we save your progress automatically. Everything you entered is still there. Just log in at the link above, and you’ll pick up exactly where you left off. Application data is retained for 30 days from the point you started.
What documents do I need to verify my identity?
In most cases, none. We use electronic verification which confirms your identity automatically using publicly available data. If this does not work, we'll ask for a clear photo of your passport or driving licence, and possibly a proof of address such as a utility bill or bank statement dated within the last 3 months. A phone photo is fine.
Why do I need to provide personal information?
ThinkMarkets UK Ltd is authorised and regulated by the
Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Under UK law, we are required to verify the identity of all clients before they can trade — this is known as
Know Your Customer (KYC). We take data security seriously: your information is encrypted and never sold to third parties.
How long does the verification process take?
Electronic verification is usually instant. If a document is required, manual review typically takes 1 to 2 business days. In most cases your account will be active the same day.
Is my money safe with ThinkMarkets?
Yes. ThinkMarkets UK Ltd is authorised and regulated by the FCA (Firm Ref. 629628). Your client money is held in segregated accounts, i.e. completely separate from our own company funds. UK clients are also protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) up to £85,000 in the event that the firm were to fail. FSCS protection covers firm failure — it does not cover trading losses.
What is the minimum deposit to start trading?
The minimum deposit for a ThinkTrader account is £50. You do not need to deposit to complete your application. You can fund your account when you are ready to trade.
Is spread betting really tax-free?
Spread betting profits are currently free from Capital Gains Tax and Stamp Duty in the UK. Tax treatment depends on your individual circumstances and may be subject to change. ThinkMarkets does not provide tax advice; please consult a qualified tax adviser if you need guidance.
Can I speak to someone if I’m stuck?
Yes. Call our UK team on
020 3514 2374. Alternatively, use the ‘Book a callback’ option if you’d prefer us to call you at a time that suits.
What do I need to provide if I am self-employed?
If your application indicates you are self-employed, we will ask for a few additional details: your industry, occupation, and company name. This is required to verify your source of funds as part of our regulatory checks. You will be prompted to provide this information during the verification step.
What file format do my documents need to be in?
A clear photo taken on your phone is fine — JPEG or PNG are both accepted. Make sure all four edges of the document are visible, the image is not blurred, and there is no flash glare or obstruction. Documents must be undamaged and show no signs of alteration. Low-quality or unclear images will delay your verification.
Why am I being asked to upload documents?
All UK brokers regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority are legally required to verify the identity of their clients before they can trade. This is known as Know Your Customer (KYC) and exists to protect you and the integrity of the financial system. It is not specific to your application — every ThinkMarkets client goes through the same process. Your documents are encrypted, stored securely, and never shared with third parties.
