In Friday’s trading session in the local markets, the Top 40 closed the day up by 1.47%. The Resources 10 sector went up by 2.5%, the Financial 15 went down by 0.48%, the Industrial 25 went up by 1.31% and lastly the South African Listed Property index down by 0.74%. The Rand traded at R14.63 against the United States Dollar, R20.12 against the Great British pound, and R16.96 against the Euro. Early in the morning, Dis-chem Pharmacies reported a trading report and a voluntary announcement relating to the Kaelo acquisition. In respect of the six months ended 31 August 2021, the Company is
expecting an increase of between 32.6% and 37.6% compared to the published EPS and HEPS number for the six months ended 31 August 2020. Furthermore, Dis-Chem is pleased with the approval of the 25% acquisition of Kaelo Holdings by the Competition Tribunal.
On the commodities front, the Brent Crude oil is trading at $85.78 a barrel and WTI Crude oil is traded at $82.88 a barrel. Gold Spot price is currently trading at $1764.06; Platinum Spot is now trading at $1060 and lastly, Palladium Spot price is at $2076.50. The oil prices continue to rally, with WTI crude oil and Brent crude oil reaches a price level last seen in October 2014.
Across the globe, the S&P 500 closed the day up 0.75%, Dow Jones closed up 1.09% and the Nasdaq had a 0.63% climb. The FTSE 100 closed up 0.37% and the DAX was up 0.81% and CAC40 was up 0.63%. In the Asian markets, the Nikkei 225 is down 0.15% and the Hang Seng is also currently down 0.58%. This week, the earnings reports are what investors will be looking forward to with big names such as Netflix, Tesla, AT&T ASML and Intel are expected to release results.
