How do I open a ThinkMarkets Equity investment account?

To open an account, download the ThinkTrader app on your phone from your app store and click Create new account. Then simply click "Live" under Account Type and “EQs” (Equities) under Instruments to trade, followed by entering your Email and Password.  Click Register to continue your account application.

What types of accounts can I open?

You can open both an Equity investment account and a CFD trading account. Then you can choose from the following account types:

Individual account that you will be using yourself, for personal trading and investing. Corporate account, which can be opened by an enterprise for trading and investment purposes. Trust account, which is for either an Individual Trust, or Family Trust.

How long does it take to process my application?

If online verification is successful, you can open an account within minutes. This is unique in South Africa.

However, if further verification is required, we aim to process all applications within 24 hours, provided you have supplied us with the correct documents.

How safe is my investment with ThinkMarkets and my cash held on my account?

We are using the latest encryption technology to safeguard your account and our trading and investment platforms. Your details are safe with us as we don’t share our clients’ data with any third party as we adhere to the POPI act.

All funds deposited with ThinkMarkets are kept in a ringfenced trust account held with South Africa’s largest banks. We also have a USD 1 million protection on all deposits held with Thinkmarkets SA. Click here to find out more.

We also don’t allow any third-party payments and only pay back to source.

Is there a fee to open an account with ThinkMarkets?

No. It is free to open any account with us. We aim to offer you the best value in the market for CFDs and equities. Click here to view our equities fee schedule. What fees do you charge for investing in Equities via the ThinkTrader app?

Our brokerage fee is 0.25% with a minimum of ZAR 30. There are no hidden costs: no cash withdrawal or administration fee and no minimum deposit requirement. We don’t charge an ongoing monthly fee for active accounts*. Click here to see our detailed fee schedule.

* There is a small inactivity fee of ZAR 25 if there is not a single trade on an account in a calendar month.

Can I transfer my Individual shareholdings from my current broker over to ThinkMarkets?

Yes. Transfer your shareholdings to your ThinkTrader app for free*. Give us a call on 010 446 5933 or talk to a consultant via live chat. Your customer service representative will take you through the process.

*Your current broker may charge you for moving your account.

Can I place an order over the phone?

Yes, absolutely, and we won’t charge you extra for placing your order by telephone. This is also a safe and secure way of making a transaction.

Please note that to ensure your safety when you call in to place phone orders or for information on your account, we will do a security check to ensure we are talking to the right account holder. To provide a high level of security, we record all telephone conversations between you and our team.
