Legal Entity Identifier
What is a Legal Entity Identifier?
A Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) is a unique global 20-digit code used to identify legal entities that are participants in financial transactions.
Why is a LEI required?
It is a requirement under ASIC Derivative Transaction Rules that CFD transactions by corporate accounts are reported using the LEI.
Who requires a LEI to trade?
All corporate clients of ThinkMarkets that have a CFD account are required to obtain and maintain a LEI, this includes companies, trusts and superfunds with a corporate trustee. Individuals, individual trustees and equities account (only) holders do not require a LEI.
How do I obtain a LEI?
If you do not have a valid LEI already, you can obtain one online. There are a number of LEI vendors accredited by the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) that issue LEIs including Bloomberg and APIR. The validity period for a LEI is one year from the date that the LEI is registered, it can be renewed annually with any vendor. It is your responsibility to maintain a valid LEI and provide this to ThinkMarkets.
Where do I send my LEI?
You can simply email us your valid LEI from your registered email address – [email protected] .
What if I do not get a LEI?
If you are required to provide a LEI and do not provide us with a valid LEI you will not be able to trade. If your LEI is no longer valid, we may suspend your account and close all positions and pending orders.
