How do you use MetaTrader 5?

Download the platform from your broker, log in with the login number, password and server name supplied to you, add the instruments you want to Market Watch, open a chart, then place orders with F9 while attaching a stop loss and take profit in the order window.

Is MetaTrader 5 free?

The platform itself is free to download and use. Trading costs come from the broker in the form of spreads, commissions and overnight funding, not from MetaQuotes.

Can you use an MT4 account on MT5?

No. The two platforms use separate account systems, so an MT4 login will not work on MT5. A separate MT5 account is needed.

What is the difference between MetaTrader 4 and 5?

MT5 covers more asset classes, offers 21 timeframes against nine, supports six pending order types against four, and includes depth of market, an economic calendar and a faster strategy tester. MT4 remains widely used, particularly by traders with existing MQL4 expert advisors, which do not run on MT5.

Why does MetaTrader 5 say invalid account?

Almost always the wrong server. Demo and live accounts sit on different servers, and the server name must match the credentials exactly. Re-enter it from the account details supplied when the account was opened.

Can you trade on MetaTrader 5 from a browser?

Yes. The web terminal runs in a browser with no installation and uses the same login as the desktop and mobile versions. It suits quick access on a machine where software cannot be installed.

Does MetaTrader 5 support automated trading?

Yes, through expert advisors written in MQL5, with a built-in strategy tester for running them against historical data. MQL4 programs from MT4 are not compatible and need rewriting.
