In Monday’s trading session in the local markets, the Top40 closed the day up by 0.02%. The Resources 10 sector went up by 3.68%, the Financial 15 went down by 0.9%, the Industrial 25 went down by 2.47% and lastly the South African Listed Property index climbed by 0.23%. The Rand traded at R14.79 against the United State Dollar, R20.44 against the Great British Pound, and R17.46 against the Euro. This morning Kumba Iron Ore released their interim results which ended 30 June 2021 and they reported 101% increase in revenue. The company also declared an interim dividend of R72.70 per share held. In other interesting news, Naspers shareholders received a voluntary Exchange Offer, where Naspers Shareholders are entitled to exchange their Naspers Ordinary Shares for new ordinary shares in the capital of Prosus (New Prosus Ordinary Shares N) at the exchange ratio of 2.27443 New Prosus for each Naspers Share tendered. The Offer ends on 13 August 2021.
On the commodities front, the Brent Crude oil is trading at $74.26 a barrel and WTI Crude oil traded at $71.59 a barrel. Gold Spot price is currently trading at $1798.6 Platinum Spot is now trading at $1056.42 and lastly, Palladium Spot price is at $2642.37.
Across the globe, the S&P 500 closed the day up 0.24%, Dow Jones closed up 0.24% and the Nasdaq had a 0.09% climb. The FTSE 100 closed down by 0.03% and the DAX was up 0.32% and CAC40 was up 0.15%..
In the Asian markets, the Nikkei 225 is up 0.49% and the Hang Seng is currently down by 5.13%. The Hang Seng continues its technology lead collapse. This started when the Chinese government published reforms that will fundamentally change the business model of private firms teaching the school curriculum. Tencent Holdings Ltd. slumped almost 8%, after the company’s music arm
gave up exclusive streaming rights and was hit with fines.
Things to look out for today in the trading day, Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet A (GOOGL), Visa (V), 3M (MMM), AMD (AMD), General Electric (GE) and Starbucks (SBUX) is expected to release their results.
