In Thursday’s trading session in the local markets, the Top40 closed the day up by 1.65%. The Resources 10 sector went up by 2.61%, the Financial 15 went up by 0.08%, the Industrial 25 went up by 1.24% and lastly the South African Listed Property index dropped by 0.78%. The Rand traded at R14.54 against the United State Dollar, R20.31 against the Great British Pound, and R17.28 against the Euro. This morning, Glencore (GLN) published the company’s half-year production report for 2021 where the report stated the production is modestly more than the 2020 half year production. Gold Field Ltd. (GFI) also published a half year trading statement for 2021 ended 30 June 2021. Headline earnings per share (HEPS) for H1 2021 are expected to be 115-135% higher than for H1 2020. Normalised earnings for H1 2021 are expected to be 27-38% higher than for H1 2020.
On the commodities front, the Brent Crude oil is trading at $74.62 a barrel and WTI Crude oil traded at $73.21 a barrel. Gold Spot price is currently trading at $1830.10 Platinum Spot is now trading at $1057.60 and lastly, Palladium Spot price is at $2658.12.
Across the globe, the S&P 500 closed the day up 0.42%, Dow Jones closed up 0.44% and the Nasdaq had a 0.20% climb. The FTSE 100 closed up by 0.88% and the DAX was down 0.45% and CAC40 was down 0.37%. In the Asian markets, the Nikkei 225 is down 1.8% and the Hang Seng is currently down by 1.8%.
Things to look out for today in the trading day, Berkshire Hathaway (BRKa/b), Procter & Gamble (PG), Exxon Moil (XOM), Chevron (CVX) and Caterpillar (CAT) is expected to release their results.
